As a Scientist you will work inside the PCVD-R&D team located in Eindhoven. The main task of this team is the continuous development and improvement of the PCVD technology. This can be in developing new processes and optimizing existing ones. Main drivers are cost price and product quality.

One of the tasks is the understanding and improvement of the quartz glass deposition model. This model combines the physical parameters essential for the PCVD process and is an R&D tool to further optimize the production process and determine the optimal equipment settings.

You will closely work together with a Senior Scientist, Development Engineer and R&D assistant to test the development and improvement ideas in practice on R&D equipment. You keep the customer and Management informed on the progress of your work. For this you organize progress meetings and write progress reports. Characterization of the product in terms of optical parameters is the next step and essential in getting the process and product approved and released.
The basic development of processes takes place within the R&D department. After completion of this phase, the transfer will take place towards Production. Aftercare during the start-up phase in Production is an important part of the job.
You will also improve process control by setting up and introducing new systems and developing the necessary tools.
Tasks & Activities:
  • Execute process improvement projects which result in higher yields and cost savings;
  • Take part in multidisciplinary expertise team to give direction to future improvement projects;
  • Set up experiments, analyse, draw conclusions and set recommendations in motion;
  • In multidisciplinary teams, break down control problems into causes and set up and implement an improvement plan for this;
  • Support and instruct production in the use of the process control system;
  • Support production in case of process deviations;
  • Support roll-out projects in production.

Functie eisen

For this position, it is important that you can work independently and show ownership.
We are looking for a colleague with persuasive and good communication skills. Furthermore,
the skills of planning and organizing are an important part of the job. Your profile:

  • Technological knowledge in the field of physics or chemistry and statistics at WO level;
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in a high-tech production environment, preferably in the optical fiber industry;
  • You are in possession of VOL-VCA or are willing to get it;
  • Important pre: knowledge in the field of plasma and microwave technology;
  • Important pre: speaking Dutch
  • Pre: knowledge of quartz glass physical and chemical properties;
  • Pre: Knowledge of project management
  • MS Office and knowledge of the programming language Matlab
  • Querying in databases
